What is Vellum?

Vellum is a personal AI assistant that lives on your computer, specifically macOS. It has its own identity, email, and can take real actions for you like sending emails, managing schedules, building apps, ordering food, browsing the web, and more. It learns who you are over time and gets better the more you use it.

How is this different from ChatGPT or Claude?

ChatGPT and Claude are conversational tools controlled by their providers; you type, they respond, and you copy-paste. You don’t own them, shape them, or have them remember you between sessions. Vellum runs locally on your machine, allowing you to mold its personality and preferences, and it remembers everything about you over time.

How does pricing work?

Vellum uses a prepaid credit balance system. Usage is deducted as you utilize the assistant, and you can add more credits from the Billing section in your account.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your workspace, memories, and credentials are stored locally on your machine and never leave your computer. While conversations are sent to cloud AI model providers (like Anthropic) to generate responses, nothing is stored on Vellum's servers, ensuring a transparent trade-off in privacy.
